Dr Olav Orheim, Chair of the IPY-OSC Steering Committee
Dr. Orheim is glaciologist and climatologist. His research focuses on changes in glacier mass and sea levels in the Arctic and the Antarctic, and he is an expert in climate policy. Former executiv director of the Norwegian Polar Institute. Currently Senior Adviser to the Norwegian Ministry of Environment and head of the International Polar Year secretariat at the Research Council of Norway, Dr. Orheim has sat on review panels for the polar/Antarctic activities of Australia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States and has chaired a number large international conferences.
