Arctic and Antarctic partners sign agreement on polar education

Representatives of the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS), the International Antarctic Institute (IAI), and the University of the Arctic have come together at the IPY Oslo Science Conference 2010 to sign a memorandum of understanding.
The three institutions have agreed to advance the academic and professional development of early career polar researchers.
A formal signing ceremony was held on June 8th, 2010 at the Norway Trade Fairs Conference Centre, during the APECS Reception, which was attended by over 750 early career researchers and mentors from around the world. Signing on behalf of the partner organizations were Lars Kullerud, UArctic President; Daniela Liggett, APECS Vice- President, and Sandra Zicus, IAI Project Office (lead photo).
In acknowledgement of the important role that each of the partner organizations has in helping the next generation of polar researchers, this agreement strengthens their joint commitment and serves as a framework to guide future collaborations.
