Breaking the ice at Oslo City Hall

The Mayor of Oslo, Fabian Stang opened the doors to the City Hall and welcomed the IPY-OSC participants to an Icebreaker Reception. The event was an informal "getting together" before the official opening of the conference.
In order to make room for all the 2400 participants of the conference, there were similar events at a lavvo in front of the City Hall and on board the research vessel G.O. Sars, in the harbour near by.
Mayor Fabian Stang presented a short version of the city's history to the guests and invited everyone to make use of one of guides that were present during the event.
