Unforgettable Sami Experience Excursion

Three unforgettable days of experience in Sapmi, Finnmark. You will visit the historical Sautso dam, enjoy a magnificent traditional sami meal and guiding in a lavvu, see the famous 6000 year old carvings and paintings on rock, traditional river fishing and history lecture at Sami University College.

Program

Sunday 13th of June

Departure from Oslo Gardermoen airport 5.15 pm
Arrival Alta airport 7.15 pm

Monday 14th of June - Sami experience in Alta - Kautokeino river dam.

Alta Museum 10.00 am
Alta has the largest concentration of rock art in Northern Europe made by people with a hunting-fishing economy.
The rock art consists of carvings and paintings made between 6200 to 1800 years ago.

Departure to Sautso 11.30 am
Arrival Sautso 12.30 pm - cinema, view etc.
Sami experience in a Lavvu 1.30 pm
History about the famous Alta-Kautokeino river conflict.
About the big demonstration against the Sautso dam, that decreased big parts of land.
Cinema inside the mountain, 20 minutes film clip about the Sautso dam.

Sami experience in a sami traditional tent called lavvu. You will be served a sami traditional meal, dessert, coffee and cake. The local sami guide will tell you more about sami traditions and joik for you.

Tuesday 15th of June - Traditional river fishing with the mayor of Kautokeino

Departure from Alta 09.00 am
Traditional river fishing in the famous Alta-Kautokeino river with the mayor himself. 10.00 am
Lunch 1.30 pm
Take a trip with the world's longest riverboat to Maze zion.
With leavings of the old mountain church. Here you will learn the sami traditional alphabet and about the illimitable land. 2.30 pm

Departure to Kautokeino 4.00 pm
Visit Juhls in Kautokeino 5.00 pm On the countryside at the village with a prime view of the town you will find Juhls' Silvergallery - for decades now one of the most popular destinations in North Norway. Here you need time!

Dinner at Thon Hotel 6.30 pm
Overnight stay at Fritidssenter & camping --- pm

Wednesday 16th of June

History by professors at Diehtosiida, the Sami University College 9.00 am

Steinar Pedersen, The headmaster of the sami university college will give a lecture about:
- The Sami University College
- The boundaries between Norway, Sweden and Finland

Price

The total cost per person will decrease if the group increases, or if a couple share a hotel room in Rica Hotel Alta.

Minimum: 10 persons
Maximum: 30 persons

The price includes flight, food and lodging for three days and four nights. 13th of June - 16th of June. Food includes three meals a day except 13th of June. The price also includes all of the experience packages in the program and bus transportation.
