Theme 6. Polar science education, outreach and communication

The success of this IPY derives in part from close connection between science and outreach. IPY projects and polar institutions have communicated IPY research in traditional (e.g. print) and modern (e.g. webcast) formats, and many outreach partners have promoted polar research in innovative ways to new audiences. This theme presents the many IPY education and outreach activities initiated by educators, journalists, media professionals, and researchers, often in unique partnerships. Talks in these sessions will reveal remarkable accomplishments, will share experiences and ideas, and will show plans and progress for continued public attention to polar issues and toward a broader environmental literacy.
